An initial version of this presentation brings together the software pages and the contract example.
This is the starting point of the history shown here.
S3Guardian
S3Guardian synchronises data between S3 storage and NFS or SMB/CIFS shares. It combines incremental transfers, recovery after interruptions, rename detection and protective controls in one tool.
Fictional example: source and destination are compared.
Identify new or changed data and plan the operations needed for each replication profile.
Use parallel transfers and streaming for large files. Rename detection and deduplication reduce unnecessary network traffic where the storage supports them.
Retain progress and retry failed transfers without restarting the entire operation.
Run replication on demand, continuously or on a schedule. Track progress, errors and operations in the dashboard and logs.
Protection rules control deletions and unusual changes. A deletion threshold can stop an overly broad operation. GUARD examines suspicious signals and can hold changes for review.
On versioned S3 storage, point-in-time recovery helps reconstruct an earlier state. Available versions and restored data are checked before returning them to use.
Routine operations follow the profile’s rules. Human review applies to operations that require it.
These controls complement your backup and recovery strategy. Their effectiveness depends on the enabled rules and your storage capabilities.
| Source and destination | Use |
|---|---|
| S3 → S3 | Replicate between S3-compatible buckets, sites or providers. |
| S3 ↔ NFS / SMB (CIFS) | Connect object storage to a file share in the direction chosen for the profile. |
| NFS / SMB (CIFS) → NFS / SMB (CIFS) | Replicate between two distinct file shares. |
Replicate changes to a destination using the profile’s deletion rules and protective controls.
Transfer new and changed data without automatically removing every destination file that is absent from the source.
Replicate to another site or provider. Define retained versions, protective controls and recovery tests for the selected storage.
Run an initial transfer, replicate subsequent changes and check the destination before switching over.
Choose a source, a destination and a representative volume. Evaluate an initial transfer, subsequent changes, a rename, an interruption and a deletion that needs review. This establishes the performance and rules suited to your environment.

Seven situations explain how to find a document, prepare an audit or review a decision.
Each example distinguishes what can be found from the limits that need checking.
The contract has five stages that can be explored by swiping or using the buttons.
A vertical gesture on the document still lets the page scroll normally.
The presentation pages use more familiar words.
The comparison below shows the home-page sentence before and after this change.
Before
KARL Core keeps document versions and recorded decisions. Software for businesses, installed on your servers.
After
KARL Core is software for your business. It keeps document versions and recorded approvals so you can find what changed.
Illustrations explain levels, versions and links between documents.
